Video: Nothing Else Matters Solo

My version of 'Nothing Else Matters' guitar solo.

Nothing Else Matters - Metallica

A Metallica ballad from the ‘Black Album’. This is actually a guitar solo performed by James Hetfield. A master of melody, as well as being in my opinion the best rhythm guitarist there is. It’s great to be able to play solos, but playing rhythm tight is just as, if not more so for playing in a live situation in a band.

Learning through listening, watching and before the internet!

This was one of the solos I had learned early on. However not from tab on the internet, as it wasn’t really there yet! However from ear and observation. This song was also featured on the documentary Metallica made when recording the ‘Black Album’.

Rewinding, listening, rewinding listening, watching, figuring out what was being played was part of the fun.

I also feel that in that generation of playing guitar that I fell into, listening was key, and is a skill that again is so important when learning. Hearing the different patterns, nuances in notes. The ending phrasing on the last few notes on this solo before the bend on the 15th fret on the B string is a perfect example of this. Using your ears to get the phrasing, where to pick and where to bend.

Thank you for taking the time to watch!
