It’s not all metal and rock solos… I also enjoy listening to and learning music from fantastic guitarists away from the metal genre. Dire Straits, Eagles… amazing guitar work. Some of these bands I was exposed to very early in life, and enjoyed but maybe didn’t appreciate them as much as I do now.

Here is the first guitar solo.

This was one of those songs I’ve wanted to learn to play.

It’s not about fast legato runs, alternate picking.. but phrasing and feel. I approach learning, first.. by listening. This is so important. If I can replay the song in my head, hum it.. this really helps when tranferring to the guitar and getting the phrases correct. Listening is such an important and overlooked element of playing, it’s having the quieter parts, making expressive bends, vibrato, rakes and the feel (the swing in this case!) here are key.

It’s also nice to play a cleanish sound, a metal version of this was absolutely a thought!, but love the tone here. For those interested, I’m using BIAS FX plugins here.
